As part of my experiment to hold myself accountable to get dressed each day, I am documenting my outfits, but this heat is zapping my will power.

What I Wore

Gym bag, bra, shorts, water bottle, socks.

Mondays I catch up on work, emails, and plan for the week, head to the gym later to avoid the crowds, and run my grocery errands with a sweatshirt thrown over my workout fit.

Then it’s put everything away, chores, make dinner, and shower.

Built in bra top, skort, bag, sandals

We took advantage of the last week of summer by making a trip to Disneyland as a family during the week. It was HOT, which made the skort a necessary wardrobe choice.

Love the built in shorts, light material, and dark fabric to hide the sweat. I cannot be bothered with a proper bra in this heat, so the built in bra tops are life. My shoe of choice to keep my dogs out are platform sandals. This summer I’ve been wearing these for most of our theme park trips. The cushion is comfy, gives me a little lift, lightweight, and somewhat fashionable.

My bag is from Hosh (IYKYK), they are running a 15% off sale through Tuesday (“serein15” at checkout on regular priced items).

I’d like to note that this green set is a few years old from a brand I no longer support based on their recent practices.

Wednesday I was again working from home then off to the gym before heading home for more work at home, I know I changed after the gym, but I forgot to take a photo, so I can’t remember what I wore. Must not have been that interesting.

Thursday, I hit up my favorite instructor’s class for a Lagree workout, which I like to do once a week or so. Then I got ready and was in full mom life with activities for my daughter.

Many of my wardrobe pieces are years old, mixed with new additions here and there. Everything I can find is linked, but my hope is that you see how I make what I have work and find similar items in your wardrobe to also style.

By no means am I a fashionista or fashion icon, but I think it’s nice to find relatable outfits to draw from. So if you are in your 40s a mom who likes to workout, maybe you can relate.

Weekly Goals

School starts for us tomorrow and I am beyond excited for a new school year with all the anticipation and hopes it brings.

It’ll be nice to have a schedule again and be able to see our community more consistently.

Fall is quickly approaching and we have so many fun traditions we are looking forward to.

I have a tendency to just save things for a special occasion, but I’m alive and that’s special enough. So to keep myself accountable, I’ll be sharing what I wore each week.

There’s also been quite a bit of wishlist items added to my notes recently and I thought I could share them with you so you can either justify the purchase or talk me out of it.

Lust List

• soft goat cashmere recently during endless doom scrolling I found Eugenia Mcquarrie on TikTok and became smitten. Rarely am I drawn so quickly to someone, but she has a very Old Hollywood je ne sais quoi that draws you in. There was a few videos talking about her love for soft goat and I’m lusting over this cardigan for winter (if it ever cools down again).

• Alex mill tote ✅ How basic can I be, but to lust after another trendy tote? So much so I randomly ordered it. Will update on if I use it enough to justify the cost.

• Leset tee I am forever on the hunt for the perfect tee. Seems fitting as I wear them 6 days out of the week. I’ve been seeing Leset pop up all over and am tempted to try them out. Currently I’m a Klassy and Buck Mason gal.

• Ruti on the loose work pant Big fan of Ruti barrel jeans and I think these would really add to my casual wardrobe by elevating my uniform a bit from denim.

• Timeless custom pinky ring and diamond pendant necklace. I have stumbled onto custom jewelry made in China and there’s so many designs and ideas I’d love to order, but have not decided on anything yet.

• Gucci loafers in brown. Loafers are a classic and while I try to sell my YSL patent leather loafers that do not fit well on my feet, I’ve been browsing to see what I’ll replace them with. Gucci has always done well for me shoe wise and I think these are timeless.

• CYKLAR naked neroli everything. This has become my favorite body care line, for Christmas I bought myself this exfoliant and quickly purchased the entire vanilla body care line. Recently I purchased the hand cream in naked neroli and the scent is so comforting and light, it’ll be my repurchase of what I’m using up.

• Really good pool/ beach towels ✅ which thanks to my friend, I already got. I picked out 2 Turkish Towels and 1 Beach Towel to replace our 8 mismatch towels that take forever to dry. My goal was to find quality pieces as I declutter excess.

• Hermes Jets ✅ I have been lusting after these since Spring and tried it on a few times in store. With fall approaching, I decided to go for it. They are incredibly comfortable and stylish. They also finally had the color way I wanted.

  

What I Wore (Tried Edition)

My life these days really is casual. Gym, work from home, school pick up, chauffeur. For week 1 of this accountablilty experimant I find I did make a little more effort twice this week where I would have normally just worn the same denim shorts and tank/ tee. You’ll notice the sandal upgrade from my typical sandals.

Monday, hitting the gym and then errands. Wore this the entire day. Set is from Aritzia: Butter bra and Shorts. Gym bag.

Tuesday: A Very typical uniform outfit. Ribbed tank with built in bra, denim shorts, Vuori wind breaker, and Hermes chypre sandals. The bag is a replica from my private seller Mannco.

Wednesday was definitely my most fashionable day. Wearing my new fit from Free People that I shared last week paired. This was an outfit I would normally save even though it is a casual comfy fit I bought to fit my current day to day life.

Top, pants, sandals are from a private seller Hillary. Necklace is a handmade gift from a dear friend.

Thursday and Friday was a variation of this uniform. Built in bra crop tee, same shorts as Monday, and sandals from private seller Hilary.

In the thick of postpartum

Add a difficult postpartum and constant weight fluctuations, I’ve been a mess in the wardrobe department as well as life. Somewhere along the line I turned 40 and feel like my usual shops are too young, but I’m not quite ready to be shopping my mom’s spots either.

Is it just me or did the quality of clothing significantly decline during this time as well?

From 2021 to 2025, I was a full time Lagree fitness instructor, so my closet was jam packed with workout sets and Disney merch. We were visiting Disney at least once a week and I fully embraced the Disney fashion.

Now that I’m slowly re-entering society, feeling more like a newer version of myself, and want to play with my style, I need to also push out of the rut of grey tees and jeans. Literally I have 5 grey Klassy crop tees and 3 pairs of denim shorts that I throw on each day.

While I love my uniform, I want to also play with fashion again.

My Rules

However being 40, a mom, and needing to shop smarter not more, these are some rules I have:

1. Comfort trumps all. If it’s uncomfortable I will not wear it.

2. Fabric, I want the fabric to make sense and feel good.

3. Cost per use, I need to get my use out of each item.

4. Quality over quantity, I want whatever I buy to last. Having too much overwhelms me.

5. Elevated, effortless, and casual. My day to day is work from home, gym, mom life, so my clothes need to fit that.

Pushing Myself

Because I’m in a rut, I thought I’d start a series where I share what I try on in store and update with weekly outfit wrap ups. The goal is to challenge myself to stretch my wardrobe, get dressed, and hopefully offer some inspiration for you and your wardrobe.

This isn’t about buying a whole new wardrobe, instead using what I have, decluttering what no longer fits, and mindfully adding to.

Free People Try On

Lately Free People has been hitting each time I walk in. The clothes are still decently made and lasts after years of washing and wear.

I purchased everything I tried on except for the first dress which just didn’t fit in a way that I see myself wearing it.

Hot Shot Mini Skort

Super comfy, stretchy, and elongates my legs. I can see myself pairing it with any of my existing Klassy tees.

Mariela Sands Maxi Dress

I wanted to love this dress, but it just didn’t feel like me, so I would never wear it.

Sky Dancing Midi Dress

This is a dress I can wear day to day and dress up a bit, the key here is to actually wear it. There’s a tendency for me to save things for a special occasion. So if you are reading this and following along my journey here remind me to wear the dress!

Dafne Knit Cropped Bolero Sweater

I’m a sucker for a knit bolero and this one is 100% cotton! Love how I can change up any outfit by adding this piece. Again the key here will be me actually wearing it.

Happiness Runs Scoop Cami and Momentum Balloon Pants

This is the most me outfit I have bought in awhile. Love a comfy set, but this one is a little more elevated. Will be wearing the heck out of this.

Barely Bare Rib Tank

I’ll take 5. These ultra thing soft tanks are also the most me purchase, but I added a beautiful blue to add some color to my wardrobe. Still wearable, but different from my grey and white tanks.
